That’s it for another year then, and the riveting blog also comes than end. How will we all get through each day?
Froome’s win is memorable for a number of reasons. The first was his domination in the mountains. Secondly, his domination in the time trials. To me, this all round ability is what makes a real Grand Tour winner. There have been many winners that dominate in one or the other (think Indurain for time trials then limiting his loses). The true all round champions though are the greats of the sport for me. Tours should be won in the high mountains, not against the clock.
So what of Froome. At 28 he has yet to reach his full potential as a tour rider. This could easily be his second victory. I’m certain it won’t be his last. He is already talking about a crack at the worlds. What a sight that would be – a world champion having a tilt at the tour next year.
It was a shame that Cav couldn’t make it five in a row, but he was beaten fair and square by the fastest man at the tour. Kittel seems destined to be a force to be reckoned with.
And what of the Green Jersey? For me it’s a joke competition now. Sagan was an alsonran on so many stages, why he gets to wear such a coveted prize is beyond me.
That’s it then for this tour. Enjoyed blogging it. That’s two years in a row. Does that mean its an annual event??
