Well the penultimate stage and therefore the penultimate blog! Apart from the inevitable post tour thoughts and round ups.
What to say about today’s stage – big big blow for Contador to drop off the podium. He certainly doesn’t look like the multiple Grand Tour winner of old. It’s interesting to see Rodriguez getting his podium place at the tour. Maybe if he had come into the event with better form he wouldn’t have been playing catch up. And it’s certainly great to see a 23 yr old climber in second. If he cracks the time trials at least we will have a proper race next year.
So, bar a crash, Froome is the winner, a Brit from the same team again. He has been head and shoulders above everyone and if it is a truly level plying field then it’s an amazing win. It leaves an interesting dilemma for team Sky. The last two tour winners on their books. One is a legend of the sport now, one looks like he has the potential to be the next multiple tour winner. Space for both of them? I think not. Arguably this could have been Froomes second tour win if he had ridden for himself last year, and I’m sure he is well aware of this fact. Brailsford is a master tactician, but this one will surely stretch even him. My bet is he backs Froome and we’ll see Wiggins leading a rival team in next years tour.
Finally, Froome has a nice punch on him. I hope he added “get out of the fucking way TWAT”
In the words of Motorhead, enjoy the success….
