Absolutely bloody amazing stage. Flat? Sprints stage? Could’ve been dull?
Today rolled back the years. It was 1930 – there was no predicting the winner! Groups scattered across the road. Great TV.
Except a sprinter won – that’s what the record books will show, but luckily I saw it (well, the highlights at least). An inspired bit if riding by Quick step, even more inspired for Cav to use his sprint speed to make the break. Once he got there , it was game over.
You have to question the lack of response by Sky. Froome was left wondering, and left wanting. To me, the lack of really experienced road captain led to him in limbo as Contador sent Saxo Bank up the road. Follow or not? Wait for a weakened team that wouldn’t get across? In short he made a mistake. Time will tell if that’s a problem. It certainly was for Vaverde. One of those days.
Winners
Contador without the beef and Kruizigberger.
Losers
Froome and team Sky. Cannot let that happen chaps.
