A tired peloton was how Wiggins described the day, and as a fan I felt tired watching the stage too. Not quite watching paint dry, but a close second.
Not a lot to report on, as today was possibly the most uneventful tour stage of this year. The pre race discussions of a Cavendish victory were a little far fetched – enough climbing to allow a break to go, with all the riders knowing a monster awaits after the rest day meant the break would surely stay away.
It’s been disappointing to have little to cheer about in the sprints, and Sagan has now won the green jersey assuming he gets over the mountains – some incredible feat for a 22 year old.
And so the final tests await for Wiggins and the now dubbed “boring” team Sky. Boring? You cannot please the media. If they get it right they are called boring for showing total dominance. I recall when sky was launched the statement from Dave Brailsford that they were building steam to win the Tour, I think with 5 years. The first year was a learning one, and everyone loved to laugh at their lack of success. Now? Boring! Well personally I sit here as a Brit, smug and proud at seeing a plan so well executed deliver the goods.
